Frequently asked questions
Yes, wool is naturally antibacterial. It contains lanolin, a waxy substance that resists bacteria, mould, and mildew. Wool’s unique structure wicks away moisture, preventing the damp conditions where bacteria thrive. This makes wool a great choice for blankets, clothing, and bedding, as it stays fresher for longer without frequent washing. Its breathability and odour-resistant properties add to its natural hygiene benefits.
Caring for your woollen treasures ensures they remain soft, luxurious, and enduring. Here’s how: **Washing:** Wool rarely needs washing. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap for small stains. Hand wash in cool water with wool detergent, or use a machine’s wool setting with a mesh bag. For heirloom pieces, dry cleaning is best. **Drying:** Always air dry. Lay flat on a towel or rack, away from direct sunlight. Never tumble dry—heat can shrink wool. **Storage:** Protect from moths with breathable cotton bags and cedar blocks. Avoid plastic bags that trap moisture. Fold neatly; don’t hang to prevent stretching. With gentle care, your woollen pieces will stay beautiful for years to come.
Wool blankets are great for temperature regulation. Wool’s natural fibres breathe and wick moisture, keeping you comfortable without overheating. Unlike duvets, which can trap heat and moisture, wool blankets adapt to your body’s temperature, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. Perfect for year-round comfort, especially if you tend to get too warm or cold during sleep.

Our shop, located at The Warehouse, Station Road, Llandeilo, SA19 6NG, is over 100 years old. Originally built as a Farmers Co-Operative, it was a community hub. Steam trains used to deliver animal feeds to the lower ground floor, which were then bagged and delivered to farms by horse and cart. The building was sold 40 years ago to an antiques dealer, who retired in 2019. The Davies family then purchased and renovated it over 8 months. Our shop now spans three floors, offering Welsh Blankets, wool blankets and throws, homeware, gifts, and clothing. Free parking is available outside, but please note, the shop is not wheelchair friendly due to its age.
Our shop is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. You can place orders on-line 24/7

Dinefwr Blankets is a young business, but our roots are old.
Today, we design our blanket colouways here in Wales, create the cloth into beatutiful things in our workshop in Llandeilo. We work with skilled artisan weavers in the UK who share our respect for traditional methods, natural materials and proper workmanship.
Our long-term aim is to weave ourselves. We have already purchased four vintage Dobcross looms and care for them with the hope that, in time, they will once again weave cloth here in Wales, as they were built to do, just as our own ancestors once worked at the loom.
Until that day comes, we choose to work with craftspeople whose hands and experience we trust, people who understand that quality takes time and that good cloth should last.
One day, we hope our own looms will be working again. Until then, every blanket we offer is made with care and respect for the traditions we value.
